Today’s dress is vintage Hawaiian. I have a few from Hawaii. I love the fit of this one. It has a built in bust and the neckline is so cute. I found it at a great shop in Williamsburg. I’m not going to be giving away all my secrets anymore though :)
The last time I was in Budapest was 8 years ago, when my folks were here on sabbatical. It was a complicated trip for a number of reasons. It was April and also snowing. I’m not a fan of the snow (hence why I moved to Australia and then California). I heard about a spa party happening at one of the many Bathhouses here (budapest lies on fault lines) and really wanted to go! I was 30. what could be more fun! However my siblings weren’t into it and wouldn’t commit. This has been a theme in our lives so it wasn’t all that surprising. Finally on the night of the event they agreed to go with me. I should have just gone alone. When I went to look for tickets, it was sold out. To their credit, they still came with me to see if we could manage to get tickets anyway. Then it started pouring rain (obviously). flash forward to now and the sparty recently came back after being shut down during the height of Covid. again I tried to find people to go with, but it didn’t work out. I went alone and very quickly I found some great foreigners to dance and chat with! There were DJs, dancers, and two pools were open. It was so much fun. It was pricey though at $70! Budapest is on the cheaper side so I was a bit surprised by that. It wasn’t that much back in 2013! It went from 9:30-1:30am but I got there at 10:30 because my other new friends were running late to meet me at my parents’ place for a drink. Then it was sort of hard to get to the bathhouse. But it all worked out! I ended up walking 40 minutes home through the mostly quiet streets. The pope is coming here today for the end of the international Eucharist conference so a lot of streets are closed at the moment. Never a dull moment! Go to a sparty!
