Post Ranch Inn

Today’s dress is second hand Mayle. I always loved Mayle ever since I saw it at Louis Boston, the incredible store I worked at during my college years in Boston. Mayle is no longer, but Jayne Mayle started a new brand called Maison Mayle. I noticed this dress online and thought it looked good! I was happy to bring it on my Big Sur adventure, which ends tomorrow! It’s been such an incredible week.

after Esalen, Tod and I went on a hike that was pretty challenging for me, but I loved it. It was a crystal clear day and the views were next level gorgeous. I had to catch my breath a lot, from both beauty overwhelm and my body telling me to slow down. After the hike, the sun was beginning to set and we arrived at the Post Ranch Inn, a favorite place for Tod. This isn’t your average 5 star hotel. It’s an experience. Every detail is expertly curated. It’s nestled in the woods, along the coast. We have a view of the water from our room. As I write this, it’s just after 7am and I can see the sun starting to peek out from behind the blind. The walls are wood, the shower is stone, and there’s a fireplace. It’s so fun to be here with my best friend. He’s a great travel buddy, and even more organized than me. Today is my 5th massage in a week! I feel so held and taken care of. The massages have been very healing. I’m learning to let go of fear and expectation and to trust that everything I need will make its way into my life. The Post Ranch Inn is pretty diligent about mask wearing (I’m sure the guests here have something to do with that). It feels less intimate than esalen. we wear a mask on our way to the table at the restaurant. The dinners have consisted of 4 course tasting menus that change each day. The first night i loved the abalone appetizer and also the duck. Last night I had kanpachi crisp, cavatelli with mushrooms and slow cooked egg, and dry aged ribeye. The desserts have been a little disappointing (yes, I know what I sound like). Last night it was little donuts. There are 2 hot tubs and yesterday we met a nice couple from Dallas at one of them. The sunsets have been gorgeous. There used to be a breakfast buffet but because of Covid, it’s not anymore, so having all 3 meals at the restaurant takes some time. there are 40 rooms here, and they all have unique names with a back story. ours is Slate after Thomas Slate, who helped develop the hot springs in the area. There’s so much history in this region. OK, off to enjoy the day!
