Happy Passover to all those celebrating! Passover is an important holiday when we remember being enslaved in Egypt and then finally being set free. Each year I feel like we can compare that situation to our own lives. Last year it was a lot about being away from loved ones and in quarantine. I’ll share what comes up this year. The picture I’m standing next to is of my grandparent‘s house in Cohasset. It was their dream house in their retirement years. It was where we all congregated every Passover. They would host around 50 people and my Dad would lead. I had a bad reputation for leaving the Seder whenever it coincided with the show “Friends.” I‘d go upstairs, watch and come back. I just didn’t have the patience for the Seder. In fact, I didn’t tolerate a lot of situations I didn’t like. Now at 37, I’m still
learning what it means to be present in the moment. The Seder has hard moments. Moments of bitterness and tears. But it’s in these moments I can try and find personal growth as well as feel connected to my people, history and community. Every year at the Seder, I’d wear a nice dress. It felt special to dress up, since it only happened 2 nights each year. My cousin Lindsey is 2 years older than me and growing up, she always had pretty great clothes for Passover. I always wanted to look as good as her! She adopted a baby last fall, on her own, during Covid. She had a day‘s notice to fly and pick up her son. I’m so proud of her and excited for Gus to learn the Jewish traditions in our family. This dress is a vintage piece I found at The Garment District in Cambridge. I had gone to visit my brother, who was living over there. It needed some mending, but I think it’s such a good spring dress. I’ve posted the boots before, they’re from Melbourne. I’m doing a live sale on Thursday night! I’ll post more details soon.
