Paris Fashion Week

This is a very special vintage dress that I found in Paris back in 2015. I studied abroad in Paris in 2005 and I didn’t go back for 10 years. I loved living there for 5 months. I studied at the American University of Paris and had some incredible experiences. One of those was getting to cover Paris Fashion week. That was really a dream come true. I was taking a class on color and communication. The instructor had a contact at the Canadian Broadcasting Company who needed an intern to help them with their coverage that season. I jumped at the chance. The assignment seemed simple enough—show up at the show early and mark a spot for the camera guy with tape. The challenge was that the design houses didn’t want anyone getting there early. The other obstacle was that everyone was after the same spot, so that their camera person would have the best view of the show. I had to get very sneaky and creative to accomplish the task. Luckily, I’m very good at that. I’m not sure how I did it, but I even got an incredible spot at the Louis Vuitton show at the Palais Royale. I was out with my friends the night before and saw them setting up for the show. I ran home to get my tape and convinced the guard to let me in. I guess he thought I was so crazy that he went for it. I really was fearless! I also got to write about the shows for the AUP magazine, The Planet. It was a bummer when the shows ended and I had to go back to just being a student. Living in Paris really opened my eyes to what living abroad meant. It was then that I decided to move to Australia, after my college graduation.

I found this dress at a vintage shop, I think in the Marais. I wish I could remember now! I do remember the other dress I found there and I’ll post that one eventually. This dress is so delicate and gorgeous. It reminds me of a garden. I know I’ll never sell it. There are still MANY dresses to get through. I think around 300-400. I swear I don’t know how it got this crazy. It‘s been a really fun, albeit not always inexpensive hobby. I hope I get to travel to Paris again sometime! Although there are many European cities I’d like to get to first.
