I’ve always loved the artist Norman Rockwell. I can’t remember the first time I heard of him, but I grew up with a poster of his famous 1948 painting, “the gossips.” In it, a bunch of people are gossiping to one another, and of course it gets back to the original person. I am a gossip…it’s not great.
this dress is one I made from cotton fabric I ordered on Etsy. It’s the same print from the painting. I made matching masks also. the Dress design is pretty simple, and it’s comfortable to wear. I’m really happy with how it turned out!
I made this dress in a few different patterns, but this one is my favorite. It’s just so fun to wear the same print I grew up looking at. Sadly the framed picture was destroyed in a flood in my grandparents basement. But one of these days I’ll get a new one. The museum is in the berkshires, where I just was.
It’s not very nice to gossip. We all do it, I’m sure. It’s one of the character defects I’m working on removing. It’s better kept in a painting/on a dress.
long live Norman Rockwell.
