Today’s dress is a vintage piece that originally had sleeves! I was heavier then and the sleeves were too tight. One ripped as I was wearing the dress, and so I had them taken off. I’m glad I did. I’ve worn this dress a lot (considering how many dresses I have). It’s easy to layer it with a turtleneck. The shoes are Mary Janes from Melissa. Last night I had the great fortune to attend a preview performance of Mrs. Doubtfire on Broadway. The production was set to open when Covid hit, but I’m thrilled it finally happened. I had heard murmurings about it, but when a friend posted on her social media about how great it was, I knew I had to see it. I went with my friend Kayla, who I met doing background acting. We were in an 80s New Years Eve scene together, for the HBO show, The Deuce. Her father is also a rabbi, and of course they know each other. We are pretty close in age, and I just adore her. We both love to write. we had intended to see Jagged Little Pill, the Alanis Morisette musical, but the timing didn’t work out. Luckily Kayla found us last minute rush tickets to Mrs. Doubtfire. We only paid $42.50 each! I already want to go back. They nailed it. The acting, writing, music, costumes, and the way they transformed a beloved movie into a musical was just unbelievable. They also modernized it with many cultural references, like googling recipes and swiping on Tinder. I was engaged the whole time. The show also had such a positive message, as most Broadway shows do. Be your authentic and honest self. Show up as you are, and you’ll be rewarded with the best in life. It’s about a dad who just wants to be around his kids after a divorce, and will do anything, including dressing up as an older lady nanny, to spend time with them. Rob McClure stars as Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Doubtfire. I’d never heard of this actor before, but soon everyone will. He took on the character in such a profound way. There was a scene with a bunch of dancing Mrs. Doubtfires that was visually very exciting to watch. I applaud everyone who worked on this show. They are clearly the best of the best. It made me want to be in musical theater. I can’t wait for the album to come out and play the songs on repeat. They kept the best catch phrases from the movie, too. When robin williams says, “helloooo!” And all the times he calls the children “poppets.” It’s set in San Francisco, and he made a joke about finding affordable housing there. Oh, so true. Run, don’t want to see this, if you’re in town!
