For a few years, I worked as a background actress. It was an interesting experience! I made a lot of new friends, watched a lot of famous actors flub lines and ate way too much delicious food. I also got to wear some of my own clothes. When a production has a lot of actors to dress, they often ask you to bring clothes of your own that will fit the scene. They don’t always choose what you bring, but there’s a chance they will! This is a vintage dress I brought for the show Search Party. It’s a very intense show, and the scene was a gay wedding. I can’t remember where I bought this. It could have been at the Alameda Antique market. The wardrobe lady said I could wear this in the scene, which felt very validating. I was a bit heavier and the dress actually ripped a little on the side. she had to sew me back into it! That was slightly embarrassing. This was back in October 2018 and the episode only aired a few months ago! I have some great pictures from the day, including one of guest actor Wallace Shawn chatting to the other actors during a break from filming. I’m honored I got to be in the scene, although I couldn’t see myself on the screen at all!
