Helen Uffner Vintage

Yesterday was fun. I’ve known about Helen Uffner for a while now. she has a HUGE vintage collection in a warehouse in queens. She has worked with many TV shoes and films. sadly, her lease is up in September and she is being forced to sell a lot of stuff. I went over there, by appointment only, and it was heaven. I could have spent all day there. I found this cotton 50s dress and one other. the prices weren’t super cheap, but they were fair. I’ve been on a buying spree lately, especially with the ease of having a car. But I’m going to try to cut it way back. It’s just getting ridiculous with all the dresses I have. I need to be selling more, but I haven’t quite figured that part out yet. any advice? I do love this dress, but I’d also be OK selling it. Usually when I wear something, I don’t wear it again for quite a while because of the sheer volume of dresses that I have. This one has a great side zipper.

helen is also Jewish and her parents were Holocaust survivors. she has SO many stories and I want to hear them and share them. Maybe I’ll write an article on her. i have to go back there. it’s like a museum. She also has costume jewelry, vintage sewing patterns, fabric, art…it was pretty unreal. I hope she finds a buyer for her permanent collection and sells what she needs to. “You can’t take it with you!”
