Today is a special post! It would have been my grandparents’ 72nd wedding anniversary and my grandpa‘s 94th birthday today. I miss them a lot. They passed 3 months apart in 2008. when I last visited the mill our family owned until recently, I noticed that my grandma’s wedding dress was hanging in a storage room, on a rack. It was in remarkably good condition. I always knew she wore a blue dress, but seeing it felt different. I then realized that it sort of fit me! A lot of her clothes from her 20s/30s are about my size. I took it home and knew I would put it on the blog. And today is the perfect day. I’m not planning on wearing it for my future wedding, but it’s special to me to have it in my possession. Grandma and I had a close relationship and I‘m grateful i went to college in Boston (where they lived) and could visit often.
I don’t know other details about this dress, like where she bought it, or why she wanted to wear blue. It was 1949 and I believe it was rare. Even now it’s rare! There is a hidden zipper in the back, so the row of buttons is decorative.
today I’ll see my new niece, Margot, who is named after my grandma, margie.
