Today‘s skirt is from a Nanette Lepore Sample sale. I love the watermelon print. I made watermelon dresses and masks during the pandemic. I want to get back to sewing at some point, but it’s not where my head is at right now. My head is in a comedy bubble lately. last night I went to support a friend who was opening for a comedian at Caroline’s comedy club. I grew up going to shows at Carolines. It’s a great venue near Times Square. Yesterday was a full day and I had multiple plans, but I was excited to get to the show. First I met my friend Kayla and we went to a kosher pizza place since she doesn’t eat in non kosher spots. Caroline's was pretty full. The show was really fun! I’d heard some of my friend Chani’s material before, but I could tell she’d really worked on it. Then Cher Landman came on. I’d never met her before, but I could see we had a bunch of mutual friends on Facebook. After the show, Kayla and I stuck around and chatted with the comics. As it got later, there was talk of going next door to Juniors, famous for its cheesecake. So Kayla and I tagged along and ended up at what was for sure the very small afterparty. I talked to Cher’s dad for a while too. I’ve never done standup and don’t know if that’s my path at all, but sometimes I hear myself talking to someone and I know I’m putting on a bit of an act. I’m being truthful, but I’m also emphasizing certain details for a certain response. It’s that sort of self deprecating humor. It doesn’t bother me to use my own crazy adventures for material. What else would I use? Maybe I’ll try an open mic sometime if it feels right. I think I have to keep doing things that scare me a little. And I’m writing a lot more lately too.
