Back to NYC

Today’s dress is Anne Klein (I’m pretty sure). I got it a while ago and had it altered, but it still doesn’t fit quite right and I’ve never worn it. I fit most of my stuff in my carry on luggage and left a few things behind at my parents‘ apartment. Nothing important. I’m jumping into wedding week mode when I get home! My mother is in the zone.

last night was a bit of an adventure. I said goodbye to my friend Niki, the one who just got engaged. She gifted me some dried lavender, from her fiancé’s family’s farm outside the city. It was so thoughtful. I love lavender. I walked down the touristy street, Vaci. I’d managed to avoid it this whole trip! I saw a manicure place and decided I had time for one. It had been ages and I need wedding ready nails. There was no one there except the owner and one employee. I quickly realized this place was no good. She didn’t even have cuticle cutters. She was using a little scissor to cut my cuticles. It was painful and I was bleeding. I told the owner and he seemed confused as to which tool I was referring to. Cuticle cutters! I left soon after that. My fingers look pretty bad. I’ll wait a few days for them to heal and try again, in NYC. Shame though.

I had a dinner reservation at textura, a Michelin star type place that’s in the guide but doesn’t actually have a star. I sat down and decided on the tasting menu for about $80. It was a splurge, but I figured it was my last night. The server told me I could choose to be surprised. I had already looked at the regular menu and it looked really great so I was excited for the surprise tasting menu of 5 courses. I received my first course and was pretty underwhelmed. It was Jerusalem artichokes with an artichoke cream and crispy chokes that looked like cheap potato chips. At that moment, two people sat at the table next to mine. I assumed they were a couple. We started chatting and they asked me if I wanted to join them. I hadn’t planned on doing the wine pairing, but the man insisted and said he’d cover it. I learned that they are from a town in Copenhagen. They’re in their late 20s and just friends. She’s a student and he’s made it as a software developer. It was clear that he had money to burn. He also warned me that he had recently been diagnosed with ADHD. I was like, buddy, you have no idea. I feel you. He didn’t like the food and barely touched it. at one point he felt like he needed a belt and kept offering large sums of money to purchase one from someone. That didn’t happen. He also tried to order a limo for the night, but none were available. Towards the end of the meal, I was feeling a little disappointed by the food, but having a great time with my new danish friends. The other courses were duck liver mousse, some kind of fish and veal. Just average. We friended the table near us, a group of German/Hungarians. Victor bought champagne for everyone, paid for my whole meal and we all went to a sky bar for more drinks. It was very random and fun. I left pretty soon after that since I had a 7:30am wake up time. this morning I gathered all my things and am currently on a bus to the airport. if there’s an easy bus/train to take, I always do. I think cabs are an extravagance. onwards!
